Episogram: Visual Summarization of Egocentric Social Interactions

Motivation

• Known: 기존 연구들은 시간 지향 데이터의 시각화(예: Sankey diagrams, glyph-based designs, PeopleGarden, HistoryFlow)를 통해 사용자의 상호작용을 요약하려고 시도했으나, temporal patterns을 효과적으로 파악하고 비교하는 데 한계가 있었다.
• Gap: 기존 시각화 방식은 snapshot이나 aggregated views를 제공하는 데는 유용하지만 temporal patterns를 식별하고 비교하는 데 효과적이지 못하며, 상호작용의 복잡한 구조(initiator, responder, social object 간의 관계)와 시간 정보를 동시에 직관적으로 표현하는 데 어려움이 있다.
• Why: 사회 미디어와 통신 데이터의 급증으로 인해 복잡한 사회적 상호작용을 효율적으로 이해하고 요약할 수 있는 시각화 도구의 필요성이 증가하고 있으며, 이는 이상 탐지(anomaly detection)와 정보 보안 분야에서 중요하다.
• Approach: directed tripartite network 데이터 모델을 도입하여 initiators, responders, social objects의 세 가지 노드 타입과 timestamp가 있는 directed edges로 상호작용을 정형화한다. Initiator-centric과 responder-centric의 두 가지 egocentric representation을 제안하고, primary timeline과 secondary timeline을 통해 temporal relationship을 표현한다.
